Claude-Anne Lopez
Belgian-American writer and scholar (1920–2012)
Claude-Anne Lopez was a Belgian-American writer and scholar who dedicated her career to the field of history. Born Claude-Anne Kirschen in 1920, she would go on to become a prominent figure in the study of Benjamin Franklin. Her work began at Yale University, where she was tasked with transcribing papers from French, laying the groundwork for her future expertise.
Lopez's expertise in Franklin's life and works led to her appointment as associate editor of The Papers of Benjamin Franklin project at Yale. She also held the position of senior research scholar in history at the university. In addition to her academic pursuits, Lopez was a co-founder of the Friends of Franklin, an organization established to promote and preserve the legacy of Benjamin Franklin. Lopez passed away in 2012, leaving behind a lasting impact on the study of American history, particularly in regards to Franklin's life and contributions.
